Setup for GMail

Postby N4Spd » Wed Feb 11, 2009 9:47 pm

1. login to your gmail account using a browser
2. click on "Settings" in the upper right hand corner
3. select the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab
4. select "Enable IMAP" and save

Now, in the Walkie Talkie setup, simply enter your email address like "johnsmith@gmail.com" and password.
The program will automatically determine the incoming and outgoing servers/settings.

If you're using the "Google Apps" business Gmail account, then you must do "manual" setup because the incoming/outgoing servers are different.

For example...

Incoming:
username: someone@company_hosted_by_google.com
IMAP Server: imap.gmail.com
Security Type: SSL (always)

Outgoing:
SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
Security Type: SSL (always)
username: someone@company_hosted_by_google.com

The reason the auto mode doesn't work is because it tries to use "imap.company_hosted_by_google.com" and "smtp.company_hosted_by_google.com" and that does not exist.

If just want to try walkie talkie on a sample gmail account or test connectivity to gmail, here's a free gmail account I've created and tested to work.

username: walkieptt1@gmail.com
password: walkie1ptt
