Question:
What is the difference between the Free/Lite version and the Pro version?

Answer:
The Basic/Lite versions are free to download while the paid Pro version require payment up front.  The Basic/Lite versions have limited functionality until unlocked via in-app upgrade.  Once unlocked, they work exactly like the paid Pro version.  The Basic/Lite versions only differ by their upgrade mechanism.

Pro/Upgraded features include audio for some devices, unlimited cameras, no ads, record mode, and more.

The Basic version uses Google’s in-app purchase to upgrade.  The Lite version uses an unlock code for users without market access or for users with market issues.

When you replace a phone, do the following for each version (will not have to pay again):
1) for Pro version, activate phone/market with original purchase email account then download Pro app from Market.
2) for Basic version, activate phone/market with original purchase email account, download Basic app from Market then select Upgrade Now in app and it’ll download past purchase and unlock itself.
3) for Lite version, find unlock code from your gmail, download Lite app from me, select Upgrade Now then enter unlock code.

See this post for more details.

Question:
How do I setup my cameras to be visible from outside my home?
Why can’t I access my camera using 3G but I can access from my home WIFI?

Answer:
See this post about using WAN IP/Hostname and a free dynamic DNS service.

Question:
What cameras, DVRs, NVRs, devices are supported?

Answer:
See Device Support List

Question:
I can’t connect to my camera, is it supported?  Can you help?

Answer:
Try the “Scan Camera” feature to automatically find compatible drivers in my app.  If no match is found, then contact me with temporary remote access and I’ll try to connect/integrate.  Also see the list devices supported.

Question:
What pre-defined web cams, like Traffic Cameras, are available?

Answer:
Traffic Cameras are listed here.  Beach and College cams will be listed later.

Question:
How to view USB webcam or use phone as webcam?

Answer:
See this post.

Question:
All my cameras stopped working in the app!

Answer:
Please check if your WAN IP has changed.  If that’s not the problem, then email me with temporary access and I’ll try to connect.

Also, see this guide to setup with a free dynamic DNS service.

Question:
Is my information safe?

Answer:
This application connects directly to your camera, DVRs, NVR, or Video Server. It does not use any intermediate servers which can collect your information. All settings are stored on your Android device. In addition, this app supports HTTPS encryption of network traffic.

Some users ask why the app requests “READ_PHONE_STATE” permission. Answer is I don’t, but because I support Android 1.5, google lists that permission automatically (see post about read_phone_state permission).

Finally, here’s a link to the privacy policy.

Question:
Is there a version for iOS/iPhone/iPad, Blackberry, or Windows Phone 8?

Answer:
Yes, see this link for ports to other platforms.

Question:
How can I transfer my settings from the Lite version to the Paid version? How can I backup my camera settings?

Answer:
Use the Export function, in Manage Cameras, to save camera settings to sdcard. Use the Import function to add cameras back. You can also email cameras to yourself to transfer settings between devices.

Question:
How can I keep app the running as a Baby Monitor?

Answer:
In Gallery View, click Menu, select Background Audio Mode. Alternatively, stay in Gallery View (setup your phone to never sleep when plugged in).

Question:
2-way audio is currently half duplex, why not full duplex?

Answer:
The default is half duplex due to 1) feedback problems, and 2) limited bandwidth/cpu causing stutter on mobile networks. To try full duplex, edit camera, click More Options, then select full duplex.

Question:
Video is delayed or audio stutters.

Answer:
The video can be delayed if the camera is sending more data than the network or android device can handle (thus queuing up tons of stale footage to process/render on mobile device). If audio stutters, the network may be the bottleneck. In both cases, first try lowering the frame rate (<5 fps for mobile) and lowering resolution in the camera’s settings. Some cameras allow multiple streams (put stream# in Ch.# field).
