planned new feature, what do you think?

Postby N4Spd » Fri Feb 04, 2011 12:35 pm

In the next release or 2, I plan on adding a "recording mode" where by the app will:

- record as fast as possible, for all enabled cameras, to your sdcard
- you'll be able to specify max space usage but app will automatically recycle space up to that limit

The idea is that you can use a spare android device that is plugged in as a cheap solid state recorder.
Probably don't want to use this mode on your normal phone because it'll drain your battery.
Also probably not useful for users with dvrs already but can be useful for people with just standalone ip cameras.

What do you guys/gals think? Should I burn the midnight oil on this one?

thanks,
rob

Hi, Rob...

Adding a recording feature would make an already excellent app better - and would be a real boon for me. I have almost a dozen IP cams scattered between northern BC and the Yukon Territory - and fire up another half-dozen of them to a working gold mine in the summer. Most of these FTP images to my website (http://www.hollowaybar.com), but the ability to record on a portable device would be a feature I would use all the time.

I'd fully support the addition of this feature...

Thanks for a great app. It's the main thing I use on my Coby Kyros tablet these days...

This is what I'm waiting for from the pro version. Been eagerly awaiting it with each update.

My primary usage would be to trigger the recording when I get a motion alert from my cameras. Yes my recording software will do this too, but it I'd good to have an offsite record as well.the advantage is I can first verify a problem before recording.

It would be good if you can control one our multiple cams for the recording.

Yes! I just installed the latest update and it's "in the works" at the UI design stage... For me, this is the killer feature!

Quick question - when I go into the new "record mode" from a live camera view screen - it just shows "No Cameras", and the "Manage Cameras" option just returns back to the Record Mode screen. Am I right in assuming this is just because this is a Work in Progress and all that's finished so far is the UI?

Just curious... Thanks for a great application!

This would be that feature I'm looking for since two month !!
Just now your IP-Cam-Viewer is running perfectly with two cams (BLC 131 and Instar 3010) on an Archos device. That intended new feature would offer the possibility to record 'round-the-clock' with low power consumption - as my tablet only needs round about 4 W ( nine times less than the LapTop I'm using at present)
